Care Summary

The Scissortail is the most beginner-friendly dartfish you can buy, peaceful with everything, reef-safe, genuinely hardy, and active enough to actually be seen during the day. That pale body transitioning to vivid blue-black at the tail is one of the more elegant natural color gradients in the hobby, and it photographs beautifully. Keep a group of three or more if the tank size allows; they are more confident and spend more time in open water when kept in numbers. Lid security is still important because all dartfish jump, but the Scissortail is far less prone to it than high-strung species like the Firefish.
