Care Summary

Fungia fungites is a free-living disc coral — a single, solitary polyp that lives unattached on the sandbed and can actually move to reposition itself if it's unhappy. Sandbed placement under moderate light with gentle, low flow; too much direct current will flip it over, and an inverted Fungia can suffocate itself on sediment if not righted promptly. The intermediate rating comes from its sensitivity to water quality — it reacts faster than most LPS to parameter swings, and the tissue on a stressed Fungia inflates unevenly or shows white patches quickly. Target feed weekly with meaty foods like mysis or silversides; Fungia is an active feeder and responds visibly to regular food with faster growth and more inflation.
