Kung pao montipora
Care Summary
Kung pao montipora is a plating Montipora with yellow ridges and lime-green polyps over a green base. It is an intermediate SPS: high light, medium flow, and a middle-to-top spot on the rock. Growth is moderate, so give it about 3 inches from neighbors while the plate fills in. Keep the flow moving across the plate rather than blasting it. Polyps should stay out. If they stay tight, the current is too hard or the light is too low for this morph. A bare rock face is better than a pocket, so detritus does not sit on the upper surface and the growing edge does not shade the coral under it. It does not need target feeding. Stable calcium and alkalinity matter more. Browning or a pale washed-out plate usually means the light is short of what this morph wants. Pulled-in polyps with tissue still intact usually means the flow is too direct.
