Brain Coral
Platygyra daedalea
Care Summary
Platygyra daedalea is a maze-pattern brain coral with complex, continuous valleys and a dome shape that gives it a classic, striking appearance — it's the brain coral that looks like a brain. Bottom placement under moderate light with medium flow; it's robust and adaptable across a range of tank conditions, making it one of the more forgiving brain corals for intermediate and beginner setups. The watch-out is tissue recession starting in the valleys — it's almost always a water chemistry signal, so use it as a canary and dial in your alk and calcium if it starts pulling back. Target feed every one to two weeks with small meaty foods; Platygyra daedalea will extend feeding tentacles at night, so evening doses of mysis or reef roids get better uptake.
